Susan Pinson serves as the Executive Director of Professional Learning at the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). In her work of planning, implementing and evaluating professional learning events statewide, she incorporates Learning Forward’s Standards for Professional Learning as the foundation for collaborative learning experiences. She provides guidance for districts on research-based practices for high quality professional learning as well as required professional development topics as outlined in state statutes. In other work at OSDE Susan directed the professional learning component of a State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) to provide educators with actionable student data by integrating multiple data systems into a cohesive system. Susan has worked in district leadership roles in both Oklahoma and Missouri as a technology integration specialist where she led initiatives to collaborate with teachers to integrate technology into K-12 curriculums. Her role as an elementary classroom teacher in Missouri for over twenty years provides the lens through which she views the importance of professional learning to change teacher practice and ultimately impact student achievement.
